Suppose that Real, Barca, Bayern, Juve, etc are tourism destinations and Ronaldo, Messi, Pogba, Muller etc are business-units (hotels).
Why are they successful? Because, they understand -among other things- the need for partnerships!
a. Destinations understand that without good players (=business units), they will never top on the champions league list (= attract many tourists). So, Barca showcases Messi, Neymar and Suarez and takes very good care of them.
b. Players understand that if they play in a less competitive "destination", their value would be less. The very well paid Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema (=very profitable business units) invite us to go watching Real (=destination), not themselves. Mr. Carbajal (right wing defender in Real), is aware that, if he would go to play at the Villa Arriba FC, he would have been valued less than 50% of his current price). In order to keep being well paid, Mr. Carbajal understands that Real should always be on top.
c. They do serious marketing, targeting their customers around the world (and not the families of the players, in other words local media and voters...)
Part 2 will follow next week.
